The outstanding contribution to their communities by volunteers across South Lanarkshire has been recognised.

Provost Margaret Cooper presented more than 30 recipients with a paper weight and certificate at a ceremony at South Lanarkshire Council’s HQ in Hamilton.

Nominations were made by councillors and include people who work with local community groups, community councils, charity organisations, sports teams or have helped the environment.

There is no restriction on nominations, other than the person must have made a significant contribution to community life.

Provost Cooper said: “The Provost’s Community Awards recognise the fantastic work that is done right across South Lanarkshire.

“Much of this work so often goes unnoticed, although of course that is the last thing in the minds of those who carry it out.

“It was wonderful to see so many people from all walks of life and hear about the tremendous contribution they make to their local communities.

“The awards are a recognition of this work and to allow us to show how much we appreciate the people who give up their own time to help others.

“For me personally, I find it a real honour, and a humbling one, to celebrate their achievements.”
